1. Unsatisfactory

Unsatisfactory attendance and/or behavior in class; poorly prepared for class; rarely responds positively in class; disrespectful to peers and/or teacher.
2. Needs Improvement
Examples of citizenship behavior needing improvement include the following:
Irregular attendance and/or inappropriate behavior in class; inconsistent preparation for class; infrequent positive comments and responses in class; sometimes disrespectful to peers and/or teacher.
3. Satisfactory
Examples of satisfactory citizenship include the following:
Attendance and behavior are acceptable; comments and responds positively in class.
4. Exemplary Examples include the following:
Attendance and behavior are outstanding; consistently demonstrates a commitment to the learning process; preparation is excellent; consistently comments and responds positively in class.
Citizenship Honors
Citizenship Honors are awarded each marking period to recognize students with outstanding citizenship for that marking period. Citizenship Honors are based on several criteria which are reviewed each marking period. Two criteria are based on report card data. First, students must have a citizenship grade of 4 (exemplary) in all but one class which must be a grade of 3 (satisfactory). Second, students may not have any negative comments in the two comment code columns on the report card. Once this screening is done to create an eligibility list, student discipline and attendance records are reviewed. Any disciplinary infractions during the marking period eliminates a student from consideration for that marking period. Any violations of BOE policy eliminate the student from consideration for the entire year. Attendance records are reviewed for the marking period and more than 5 unverified absences or 5 tardies to class or school eliminates the student from consideration.
Students who earn Citizenship Honors will receive a customized sticker which they may place on their student id. They are then allowed to use their student id in lieu of a passport. Students who receive Citizenship Honors are also allowed free or reduced admission to special events during the marking period.
**Revised Citizenship Policy**
Preemptory Clauses (Not Part Of Policy)
1. Recognizing that the current citizenship policy provides and unfair playing field for all students to have the opportunity to receive citizenship honors.
2. Recognizing that not all teachers give out fours as a citizenship grade.
3. Recognizing the comments regarding grades should not be part of the requirements for citizenship honors.
4. Recognizing that all teachers must follow the guidelines set out when grading students on citizenship.
5. Recognizing that if a senior receives citizenship under this new policy, that senior will be allowed admission to the senior lounge.
6. Recognizing that out of 185 students, 85% of students believe that the current citizenship rules should be revised.
