Amity High School Student Government Meeting                                                           2/6/12

A regular monthly meeting of the Amity High School Student Government was held a meeting on February 6th 2012 at 6:45 in the lecture hall.

1. Mr. Marazzi called the meeting to order at 6:52 P.M.

2. 72 members were recorded present on the roll call as well as members of the public.

3. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by those present.

4. Corresponding Secretary Report

Zhang Liu reported that if any class wanted to conduct a matchmaker fundraiser, they should contact him.

5. Treasury Report

Sarah Giovanniello reported that there was $8,367 in the treasury.

6. Class Council Report

The Freshman Class President reported that they had made $150 from Bake Sales.

The Sophomore Class Council reported that they are currently planning bake sales.

The Junior Class Council reported that they are currently counting ballots for junior prom and they are also planning on moving prom to May 5th. The council reported that the prom theme would likely be Midnight in Paris.

The Senior Class reported that Mr. Spartan will be on February 16th and tickets will be $5 dollars. Mr. Marazzi stated that this would be the first time they are holding Mr. Spartan in a few years.

Old Business

7. Clothing Drive

The Chairperson reported that we had received over 200 bags of clothes. Mr. Marazzi thanked Sarah for her work and stated that the organization had mentioned our work in their newsletter.  Mr. Marazzi also explained why an email was sent out regarding the drive. He did not mean to be offensive.

New Business

8. Senior Lounge Policy

Tricia stated that an overwhelming majority of students supported changing the senior lounge policy for students with 3’s and 4’s as citizenship grades. Thomas Falcigno read the results of the poll and stated that the results will be read to the principal.

9. Chartwells Committee

Thomas Falcigno asked for each member of the student government to send questions regarding our school lunches to be put on a survey that will be going out to the students.

10. Microphones

Motion to Move To A Discussion On Purchasing Microphones (Ashley Griffin, 2nd Brent Marieb)

Vote In Favor: Unanimous

Mr. Marazzi stated that the microphone set will cost $699.00 and will include the entire system.

Motion to Purchase Microphones (Sarah Teitelman, 2nd Weiwei Bi)

11. Daffodil Sales

Mr. Marazzi stated that everybody needs to sell at least five daffodils and said it was one of our biggest fundraisers of the year.

12. Superintendent Survey

Thomas Falcigno asked all members to fill out an online survey for the search of Amity’s next superintendent. He would like to see a large student impact on the decision.

13. Food Drive

Mr. Marazzi named three chairs of the food drive committee. Those chairs are Alex Marieb, Sarah Gans, and Nathan Benjamin. Sign up for the committee would be after the meeting.

14. Hopkins Presentation

Charley Proctor, the junior class president from Hopkins, gave a presentation about the High School Challenge, which would be social networking for charity. The event would occur from October to December of 2012 and would be a competition between high schools to raise money for charity. The winner will receive $10,000 to donate to the charity of their choice. Amity is the third school to receive this presentation and the goal is to raise as much money as possible.

15. Proposal to Student Handbook

Joe Stein proposed an amendment to the student handbook regarding the use of hallway passports.  Joe read the proposed amendment.

A brief discussion was held. Mr. Marazzi suggested that this be a topic of discussion for the March meeting.

16. Adjournment
