Amity High School Student Government Minutes January 9th 2012
A regular monthly meeting of the Amity High School Student Government was held on January 9th 2012 at 7:00 P.M. in the lecture hall.
1. Mr. Marazzi called the meeting to order at 7:10 P.M.
2. 65 members of the Student Government were recorded present on the roll call as well as members of the public. Vice President Allison Giebisch was not present.
3. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by those present.
4. Treasurer’s Report
Sarah Giovanniello reported that there was over $8000.00 in the account. This is included with the money that was raised at homecoming.
5. Freshman Class Council Report
The freshman class president reported that they are currently planning fundraisers.
6. Sophomore Class Council Report
The sophomore class president reported that they are currently planning fundraisers.
7. Junior Class Council Report
The junior class council president reported that they have $3000.00 in the account. They are planning junior prom and they are planning bake sales.
9. Senior Class Council Report
The senior class president reported that the senior class is currently making class shirts.
New Business
10. Climate Change Committee
President Coffey explained the creation and purpose of the committee. The director of counseling will be in charge of the committee and asked the student government to have representatives to the committee. The purpose of the committee will be to create more school spirit. Mr. Marazzi stated that this has been tried before and has been unsuccessful.
Thomas Falcigno also mentioned that there will be a Principal’s Committee Meeting this Friday.
11. Student Government Website
Thomas explained and toured the student government of their new website. The location of the website is at this URL: http://www.amityhs.com/government/
Old Business
12. Clothing Drive
Sarah Teitelman explained that the clothing drive would be held from January 9th to the 27th. Mr. Marazzi explained the origins of the clothing drive.
Open Forum
1. Feed the Children
Shoba Patel, a member of the public, rose to ask for a $250.00 donation for the Feed the Children Club from the student government. Shoba explained what the functions of the club are and wants to help people locally and worldwide. They are currently working on getting money for the club.
Motion to Open Discussion to give $250.00 to the Feed the Children Club. (Dana Leyden, 2nd Jessica Malinconico)
Vote: Unanimous
President Coffey asked where the money is going. Shoba responded by saying that they would be using the money to fund food programs, activism, and directors. Shoba also stated that this would be a donation at first, and then it may become a loan. The money that Shoba has received so far has been going to starting up the club.
Motion to close discussion for the donation (Jessica Malinconico, 2nd Hannah Bercovici)

Motion to give a $250.00 donation to the Feed the Children Club

2. Agenda
Mr. Marazzi stressed the point that if a member of the public wants to see something discussed at a student government meeting, the request must be given to him in a reasonable amount of time prior to the meeting so it could be added to the agenda.
3. Parking Policy Update
Thomas Falcigno explained the passage of the new parking policy, which will be enacted at the beginning of the third marking period. Falcigno asked that students wait to buy a parking pass until the beginning of the third marking period so they could save money.
4. Adjournment
