Amity High School Principal’s Committee Meeting                                                    11/18/11

 A Principal’s Committee Meeting of The Amity High School Student Government was held on November 18^th, 2011 at 7:00 A.M. in the Principal’s Conference Room.

1. Dr. Britton called the meeting to order at 7:09 A.M.

2. 8 members of the student government were present with Dr. Britton.

3. Naviance

Dr. Britton asked how students felt about the Naviance program in the school. The general consensus was that many students like the program.

4. Report Cards

Dr. Britton asked of the students supported the idea of the reports cards being placed on Ipass. Thomas Falcigno stated that he felt not many students know about the paper option and asked that there be more of an effort to make the paper option known. Becca Jiang asked if most parents and students were signed up on the Ipass system. Dr. Britton said most families were signed up. Dr. Britton has heard mixed feeling about the report cards online but clubs like the environmental club love the idea. Thomas Falcigno stated that this seems to be an issue worth discussing at the next student government meeting.

5. Ipass

Dr. Britton asked how students felt about the Ipass system. Thomas Falcigno brought up the issue that teachers need to be better about putting grades in when they are graded and not before the marking period ends and some teachers hand test back very late. The committee recognized that most teachers are swamped with work.

6. Homecoming/ Pep Rally

Dr. Britton asked if we are all prepared for this week’s event. The committee stated that they were prepared.

7. Ice Cream Contest

Dr. Britton asked for an explanation of the Ice Cream contest that would be happening. Alex Marieb explained what would be going on and most students are excited. Dr. Britton expressed concerns over the amount of students that the cafeteria can hold at once.

8. Vending Machines/ Lunch Prices

The committee expressed concerns about the prices at lunch and the vending machines. Dr. Britton recommended that the student government talk with the Chartwells head to discuss these issues. Thomas Falcigno suggested that the student government should reinstate the Chartwells Committee to effectively deal with these issues.

9. Veterans Concerns

Dr. Britton explained the veteran that spoke at the BOE meeting and what action will be taken to accommodate his views. Dr. Britton explained that he would like the veterans to come to social studies classes to talk about their stories about service in the military. Dr. Britton believes that it would be better that things be done at a much smaller scale.

10. Exams

Dr. Britton offered a suggestion to modify the exam schedule to have regular classes during the exam period. The committee felt that the exam schedule is fine the way it is and would oppose any plan to modify the schedule. Dr. Britton decided to withdraw the suggestion.

11. Advanced Placement Committee

Thomas Falcigno asked Dr. Britton if he supported the initiative to allow AP students not to take the final exam due to them already taking the AP Exam in May. Dr. Britton said he supported the proposal and would like to see a student representative at the AP Committee Meetings. This will be discussed at the nest student government meeting.

12. Adjournment

Having nothing more to discuss, the committee was adjourned at 7:43 A.M.
